Gaetano Parisio

Biography

Since his debut in 1992, Gaetano Parisio, aka Gaetek (born in Naples, Italy in 1973) has been one of the most consistent DJs and producers in the realm of techno.

He released slabs of vinyl on revered labels plus his own portfolio of innovative imprints, contributing to the development of the late 90s hard groove scene.

Stepping out of the spotlight to solely dedicate himself to the art of making music for the past decade, the Naples-born artist reemerges in 2019 with a new vision to propel techno through yet another phase in its ongoing evolution. Starting as Gaetek, he released a flurry of classic on labels like Drumcode, Planet Rhythm Records, Primate Recordings, Zenit, Kombination Research and Mosaic, just to mention a few, that were immediately elevated into regular rotation by icons such as Dave Clarke, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills. In 1997 Gaetano launched his first label, Conform, which quickly became a beacon for the international techno scene.

Starting to collaborate both in the studio and live with Marco Carola, the two Neapolitans became fixtures at the world’s best clubs and festivals with a four-turntable/two-mixer set-up that left crowds screaming for more. They also befriended like-minded artists like Adam Beyer, Ben Sims, and The Advent, all of whom released music on Conform. In 1999 Gaetano brought the techno scene together on a charity compilation, Techcommunity 4 Kosovo, first and perhaps until now the only charity project produced by the global Techno scene, that included Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier, Surgeon, Adam Beyer, The Advent, Marco Carola, James Ruskin, Cari Lekebush, Ben Sims, and Gaetek himself, to aid the children of war-torn Kosovo – a rare and quite shocking flare-up of violence within the relatively peaceful boundaries of modern Europe. If Conform was about community, Gaetano’s next label, ART (Advanced Techno Research – 1998), was a one-man affair that issued a series of 10 limited-edition, precision-crafted, two-track singles, over the span of two years.

He continued the conceptual approach to production with the book-inspired Chapter series, released in the year 2000 on his new Southsoul label which introduced a deep house-flavored techno sound that was eagerly endorsed by DJs of all stripes. In 2007, Gaetano took a step away from the frenetic life of an international DJ. During that time, he continued recording hundreds of tracks for the pleasure of music intelligentsia only. A decade later Gaetano moved to Barcelona, Spain, and set-up a new music studio and decided to republish the back catalogs of its labels (this time in digital format too) alongside brand new music reloaded by several collaborations that will be revealed shortly.

On the occasion of the presentation Gaetano will perform under the pseudonym of Gaetek (alter ego last time used in 1999) with two tours: ORIGENS, a show where he returns once again to play on three turntables just as he did in the beginning of his career, and GAETEK LIVE, reenacting more than 25 years music career in a show aimed at the techno of the next generations.
